I don’t take it the wrong way. I just partially disagree. Yes, fit (or function) is important. However, I think a strong argument can be made that aesthetics is part of design and not just for decorators. However, we have to be cautious of the point you make because the aesthetic usability effect can often mask functional issues.
I would choose function as a higher priority than aesthetics. But, I could not agree that at some point, aesthetics (and visual design principles) should be a consideration.
