There are so many good points in this comment, Jason. Thanks for taking the time to write this up. I always hoped the same as you and I still do. I hope the standardization will free us up to spend more time working on the actual experience. But my experience thus far is the governance of these design systems becomes an additional burden and the bureaucracy around them takes far more time to manage than the time you save. Maybe that will change.

Another point is on agile. I am so tired of being asked about agile in interviews when there is often no thought as to how to include primary design phases into the process. I know some organizations have figured this out. Most have not. So why do I need to understand the agile process?

Your last point on companies who are just getting into software hits home with me. I work in healthcare where we are at least a decade behind in technology. So we work even harder to catch up. This is a big problem in my industry.
