This is true, Thomas. I think there is the tendency on both sides of the table for people to inflate the benefits of employment. As candidates, we often pad our resumes of put a spin on a project while organizations gloss over the detriments of a position only concentrating on the positive points. It does, indeed, help to get “second opinions.” This goes both ways though. I have talked to people who told me not to work at a company they had previously worked for and I have also talked with people who told me not to hire a candidate whom they had previously worked with. The latter example is, I believe, questionable in terms of its legality and ethics. But, it does happen.
